STUDENT-FACULTY RELATIONS On a campus the size of SUI's, it's difficult and often impossible to mingle informally with the faculty unless some media are provided. The committee designed to serve in this capacity is the Student-Faculty Relations Committee. The contacts promoted by this AWS committee will convince you that your instructors are a far cry from the complex distributors of information they may seem at first. You'll enjoy attending these functions, where you can join your professors and instructors for a cup of coffee and cookies and discuss your plans for the future, campus affairs, or just make small talk. If you've a class prior to the afternoon coffee hour, invite your instructor and the class along to the AWS get-together. This committee is still in the formative stage, with unlimited possibilities for expansion. You'll be able to contribute your ideas for the group's growth if you work with this committee. FOREIGN STUDENT COMMITTEE Do you enjoy trying out the foods of other lands? Would you enjoy meeting the people of other countries and learning to prepare their native foods? If so, then work on the AWS Foreign Student Committee is the thing for you if you're looking for a little harmony to add to your life at SUI. The committee is composed of eight to ten girls, selected from applications submitted to AWS in the spring. These girls work throughout the next year in the planning and carrying out of activities which will bring the American and foreign students closer together at SUI. Stressing understanding and fellowship, this group sponsors a series of dinners. Each meal is prepared by students from a different country or region with a menu which is typical of that area. The committee members watch over their shoulders, learning how to cook all the foods on the menu, and learning a few words of the language at the same time. In this atmosphere the committee members and the foreign students become quite well acquainted during the course of the year. Many other activities are a part of this committee's work-discussions, folk singing, picnics, and any other activities which the committee might choose to sponsor. If you have a sincere interest in people and a desire to broaden your cultural foundation, the Foreign Student Committee is the activity to join. It's lots of work but much more fun and very rewarding. 25
