quired to take part in the semi-finals. From this, a select number of ensembles is chosen to sing on the Sunday afternoon of Mother's Day Weekend. Following judging by qualified musicians, first and second place winners are chosen. Competition is keen! It's fun, exciting, and rewarding. If your housing unit needs a trophy to fill a spot in your trophy case, U. Sing is one of the many activities in which you will want to take part. If you really haven't much of a voice, but lots of talent at organizing an all-University activity like U. Sing, then maybe you'll want to take part in the planning. The chairman of University Sing is a member of the AWS General Council; she is selected each fall through application, as is her committee. MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND You can entertain your mother and family royally at the AWS-sponsored Mother's Day Weekend every year. With the assistance of a faculty advisory group, the Mother's Day Weekend Committee arranges a busy schedule of events to entertain parents visiting the campus during this special weekend. Guided tours of campus departments, the Seals Water Show, and University Sing provide mothers and their whole families with fun. Highlighting the festivities is the annual Mother's Day Luncheon, at which the SUI Mother of the Year is presented. You'll feel closer to your mother after the weekend of fun you enjoy together next spring under the sponsorship of the AWS Mother's Day Weekend Committee. Tell your mom about it now! AMERICAN RED CROSS One of the most rewarding and pleasurable aspects of AWS work is the American Red Cross College Unit's work with Veterans' Hospital patients. You'll get a feeling of accomplishment from helping with the therapy of the veterans, and you'll probably have a tremendous time at the parties, as well. The unit plans parties at the hospital during the year, each featuring fun, food, and entertainment. These are given simultaneously on three floors of the hospital. Essential to their success are volunteer hostesses, who donate a few hours of their time during the evening of the party. If you participate in ARC work, you'll have lots of help-the patients themselves take great pride in helping with decorations and other arrangements for the parties. 27
