Freshman Council AWS has reserved a voice in its large organization especially for YOU, the freshman coed, for Freshman Council forms a bridge between the freshman women on campus and the active body of AWS. This group is composed of approximately twenty members, each representing a housing unit. Last year the Council members helped with the publicity of AWS general events by presenting skits in the women's housing units and by making posters. During Mother's Day Weekend, they were the organizers and hostesses for a tea honoring all the mothers of AWS General Council and Freshman Council members. Two of the main purposes of Freshman Council are (1) to be representatives at large of other freshman women and to keep them informed of AWS projects, and (2) to promote special interest and enthusiasm in leadership and activities so these girls will provide future leadership for AWS and other University organizations. Central Judiciary As a coed, you'll be governed by certain rules and regulations concerning hours and conduct. These principles are outlined for you in the Blue Book and in the Code of Student Life which you will find in your residence hall room upon arrival. The Central Judiciary Board, whose chairman is a member of the AWS General Council, helps formulate and administer these policies. Its membership includes representatives from the women's housing units. Student-Administration Teas Committee On a campus the size of SUI's, it's difficult and often impossible to mingle informally with the faculty unless some media are provided. The committee designed to serve in this capacity is the Student-Administration Teas Committee. The contacts promoted by this AWS committee will convince you that your instructors are a far cry from the complex distributors of information they may seem at first. You'll enjoy attending these functions, where you can join your professors and instructors for a cup of coffee and cookies and discuss your plans for the future, campus affairs, or just make small talk. If you've a class prior to the afternoon coffee hour, invite your instructor and the class along to the AWS get-together. This Committee is still in the formative stage, with unlimited possibilities for expansion. You'll be able to contribute your ideas for the group's growth if YOU work with this Committee. 13
