AWS Feminine Review As an undergraduate woman at Iowa you are already a member of the Associated Women Students, or AWS, the largest women's organization on campus. Acting as the governing body of all U of I women students and serving judicial, service, and social purposes, the scope of AWS activities is sure to include something of interest to you. AWS executive officers are elected during all-campus elections by the women students of the University. The officers for 1965-66 are led by Nancy Matthias as president, and guided by Miss Helen E. Focht, Counselor to Women. Brenda Schnede is the current vice-president, Kathy Buresh is secretary, and Carolyn Lukensmeyer serves as treasurer. AWS General Council includes the chairmen of the various areas, and an executive secretary. If AWS sounds as exciting to you as we think it is, browsing through this list of activities may interest you further. FRESHMAN COUNCIL AWS gives you, the freshman coed, a speaking part in its large organization through the Freshman Council. This group is composed of approximately twenty-two members, one from every housing unit, who keep the freshman women on campus in contact with the active body of AWS. Last year the Council members helped with the publicity of AWS general events. For the first time, the council was in complete charge of the all-campus Spinster's Spree; and, during Mother's Day Weekend, the council held a tea in honor of all the mothers of AWS General Council and Freshman Council members. The main purpose of Freshman Council is to promote special interest and enthusiasm in leadership and activities in hopes that its members will provide future leadership for AWS and other University organizations. CENTRAL JUDICIARY University life brings new rules and regulations to be followed concerning hours and conduct. These principles are outlined for you in the Blue Book and in the Code of Student Life which you will find in your residence hall room upon arrival. The Central Judiciary Board, whose chairman is a member of the AWS General Council, helps formulate and administer these policies. Its membership includes representatives from the women's housing units. 18
