chairmen in choosing their respective committees. Personnel Board members are selected by the AWS Executive Council. If you like to meet people, you would enjoy this activity. AMERICAN RED CROSS Service is the key word for the Red Cross Committee. This year the committee is planning expansion, while it presently works in two areas: serving the community at the Recreation Center, and presenting Sunday evening programs for the patients at the Psychopathic Hospital. The activities of the Red Cross give both enjoyment and experience to those who volunteer, and also serve both the community and the University. SYMPOSIUM The AWS all-campus Symposium is a relatively new event in the AWS schedule of activities. The word "Symposium" derives its meanings from social gatherings in ancient Greece at which there was a free interchange of ideas. The AWS Symposium, through a varied format of lectures, panel discussions, and informal discussions, offers the student an opportunity to engage in a free interchange of ideas, on a particular theme, with other students, outside speakers, and University professors. It's a great opportunity to express your own opinion and learn from listening to others. CODE FOR COEDS You've already heard about this phase of AWS work-Code for Coeds. By means of this booklet, AWS wishes to welcome you and help you prepare for the big step into college life. We hope that you will find here the answers to the questions that inevitably enter your mind as you embark upon a new experience. We also hope that after you have adjusted to everyday life at Iowa, you will be motivated to branch out into campus activities, especially those of AWS! This booklet may prove a handy reference as you seek outlets for your interests and abilities. There's a place at Iowa for all willing stagehands, and we hope Code for Coeds will aid in finding the one just right for you. 22
