ORIENTATION Orientation is a get-acquainted period in the fall. Freshmen are introduced to campus life and activities. The events of this year's Orientation program have been described previously. We hope as you participate in Orientation activities this fall, you in turn will become an Orientation Leader. PERSONNEL BOARD Personnel Board's specialized function is interviewing and selecting general chairmen for AWS committees. The proposed chairman's name is approved by the Executive and General Council. Executive Council appoints the three members of Personnel Board. An awareness of the individual areas, their activities, and an interest in meeting people makes this an enjoyable and worthwhile activity. PUBLIC RELATIONS Coverage of AWS events in The Daily Iowan and other information sources keep the Public Relations chairman busy. In addition, she assists the publicity chairmen of the other AWS committees on their projects. During the summer she plans and directs preparations for the AWS booth in the Activities Carnival. An interest in journalism and publicity are the only requirements to serve on this committee. PROFILE PREVIEWS You're the center of attention as you make your official entrance into U of I activities in Profile Previews. In this style show freshmen and transfer coeds model their own clothing, entering in one of the many categories, ranging from formal dress to sports attire. Niney semifinalists are chosen from tryouts to model in the show. One is crowned as Miss Perfect Profile on the basis of her poise and appearance. The success of this AWS event more than any other depends on your participation. Applications and more information will be available in the fall. STUDENT ADVISORY Qualified, interested students on this committee are prepared to answer questions about courses and scheduling of freshman and transfer students as they register. The work of this committee supplements faculty advisers. Student advisers are also present at summer pre-registration to help with scheduling the academic program. Here is a committee on which you can help other new students get off to a good start! UNIVERSITY SING Every year each housing unit is encouraged to participate in a choral ensemble to vie with other groups for a first-place trophy. Selection of 19
