Floodlights Orientation is an AWS program especially created to acquaint you, the new student, with the State University of Iowa. "On with the Show" is the theme this fall for the unified men's and women's activities. By now you may have received letters from an orientation leader, beginning the program before you even reach campus. Write to her, asking any questions that you may have about the University. Tours are sponsored in both Currier and the Commons on September 13. After a mass meeting the same day in the Iowa Memorial Union at 7:30 p.m., you will meet your own orientation leader and other members in your group. That night after closing hours you'll have fun with your new friends at a dorm "cozy." Friday, September 14, marks the introduction to a whirl of activities when comprehensive skills tests for new students begin. That evening you'll have an opportunity to learn more about the numerous athletic facilities at SUI while you attend Play Night at the Field House. An exhibition in the Field House pool by the Dolphins, men's swimming fraternity, as well as demonstrations in other athletic departments, will be featured for your entertainment. You can later play volleyball, basketball, badminton, Ping-pong, or swim, if you wish. Play Night will close with a lively square dance. SUI Memorial Union has scheduled open house on Saturday, September 15, to introduce you to all its facilities. There will be an informal mixer for old and new students in the Main Lounge that evening with dancing and entertainment. You can then take your first look at the bowling alleys, billiard rooms, and the Gold Feather Room. Sunday morning you'll want to attend the church of your choice in Iowa City. On Monday, September 17, your tests and activities resume. You will all meet together in the Union at 7:00 p.m. before you adjourn to the home of your own orientation group's faculty adviser for an informal coffee hour.
