Union Socialites and Party [hand drawing of girl and boy] Books are stacked up on your desk for the weekend, and you're in the process of pulling frothy crinolines over your head. Hanging inside your closet is that new outfit you've been waiting and hoping to wear. Every girl happily anticipates such nights when she has a special date for a special dance. Central Party Committee plans six parties each year for the whole University, while housing units and various campus groups sponsor their own dances. Decorations transform the Main Lounge of the Union into a smooth ballroom. Homecoming is one of the anticipated weekends of the year. A whirl-wind of events includes the parade with floats representing each housing unit, the pep rally at night on the west steps of Old Capitol, the game itself, the burning of the corn monument to signify a hoped-for victory, and the Dolphin swimming extravaganza with the presentation of their Dolphin queen. The Homecoming Dance in the Union on Saturday night with a nationally-known name band culminates the activities of the weekend. Early in the fall, Central Party Committee sponsors the Fall party where the newly-elected Miss SUI reigns. The all-University Winter Formal is held just previous to the Christmas holidays. The Union takes on a French note for an evening in February when the Club Cabaret is presented. Girls take their fellows to Spinsters' Spree, an April dance sponsored by AWS and Central Party Committee. The final all-University dance is the Spring Party. Currier Hall's Winter Formal, Sweetheart Formal, and Spring Formal highlight the social calendar for those of you in Currier. Caps Caprice is presented by Westlawn, the student nurses residence, while the Quadrangle and Hillcrest, men's dormitories, each sponsor their formal dances. 16
