Home Economics Club You need not be a Home Economics major to attend the meetings and participate in the activities of the Home Economics Club. Style shows, practical demonstrations, and lectures will be of value to you whether you intend to be a housewife or a career woman. The club also sponsors a Baked Bean Supper and a Senior Tea. The Scottish Highlanders [hand drawing of girl on drum] Scottish Highlanders Highlanders is an all-girl drum and bagpipe band which performs at football games and other events during the year. The group is directed by William Adamson. Tryouts are held early in the fall. Although previous musical training is helpful, it is not necessary for membership. This summer the girls are taking a trip to Europe, and giving concerts in various places. Music If you are interested in music, the Unviersity band, orchestra, and chorus will be of special interest to you. You need not be a music major to participate in these activities; just audition at the beginning of the semester for membership. The University chorus holds two-hour practice sessions Tuesday and Thursday nights and presents several concerts each season. There is also a select group of chamber singers. The SUI symphony orchestra practices two evenings a week and presents several symphony concerts each year. Iowa's concert band makes an annual spring tour in addition to giving concerts on campus. Academic credit is granted for participation in these groups. If you are musically inclined, be sure to stop at the Music Building for more detailed opportunities in this field. 19
