Union Board Social and cultural activities held in the Iowa Memorial Union are planned and directed by the student Union Board. The members are a group of sixteen students representing the different colleges of the University. Board members, each responsible for a special Union activity, serve as chairmen of the various committees of games, fine arts, bridge, movies, television, publicity, matinee dances, post-game parties, and special events. Each spring the student body votes members to the Union Board in all-University elections. To be eligible for Union Board, a student must have completed work on a sub-committee. The Central Party Committee [hand drawing of girl] Central Party Committee organizes and produces the all-University functions held in the Union. This group of three sophomores, four juniors, and five seniors is selected by the outgoing committee on the basis of applications each spring. There are an equal number of men and women students serving on the committee. To be chosen for Central Party Committee is a coveted honor. Members usually begin their association with the committee by serving on sub-committees. Apply for a sub-committee this fall if you are interested in future Central Party Committee work. 29
