[hand drawing] 1957 MISS I. COED EICHER'S Opening Night A moment of suspense always pervades the theatre before the curtain goes up on opening night. . .the audience sits breathless and waiting, anticipating the events that are to come. Orientation is an AWS program that tells you about the events of campus life before the curtain rises. The theme of this year's program, "Curtain Going Up," has been designed to acquaint you with the State University of Iowa. Currier Hall and The Commons dormitories are both sponsoring tours on September 20 so that you and your parents can look over your new living quarters. Later in the evening you'll be able to meet with your new friends at a dorm "cozy". Saturday, September 21, will officially mark the beginning of orientation with a University meeting for Freshman women at 9:00 a.m., followed by small orientation group meetings at 11;00 a.m. Here you will meet your own orientation leader and the other members in your group. That same evening, our Iowa Memorial Union will hold open house from 8:00 p.m. to midnight to introduce you to all its facilities. An informal mixer is scheduled for old and new students. You can take your first glimpse at the bowling alleys, billiard rooms, and the Gold Feather Room. Sunday morning you will want to attend the church of your choice in Iowa City. On Monday, September 23, your planned activities resume. You will meet with your orientation group for a new student welcome by prominent University administrators, and you'll all join in singing SUI pep songs. Afterwards you'll adjourn to the home of your group's faculty adviser for an informal party, where your leaders have planned special entertainment and refreshments. Transportation is provided to the faculty homes. In addition to the two girls who lead your orientation group, there are two fellows to guide the males of the group. To help you find your way about campus more easily, tours, will leave every half hour from the east approach to Old Capitol on Tuesday, Sep- 10
