[hand drawing of canoe] WRA Who said women are the weaker sex? When it comes to activities sponsored by the Women's Recreational Association, there is no sign of feminine frailty evident. Through the numerous clubs and activities you will find your individual form of recreation that particularly interests you. Chosen by WRA members in all-University spring elections, Linda Adamitz is the association's president for 1957-58; Harriet Kunik, vice-president; Marilyn Eastridge, secretary; Maryanna Spies, treasurer; and Kaye McLarnan, intramurals chairman. If you are especialy interested in modern dance, tryout for Orchesis. Members of Orchesis present a show each year in addition to learning new variations and interpretations at the weekly meetings. Watch for notices in The Daily Iowan for tryout dates. Other forms of the dance can be found in The Social Dance Club. You cn learn everything there from jitterbug and social dancing to the polka and folk dancing. In their seasons, women's sports are offered by WRA. The Hockey Club is active each Wednesday afternoon in the fall on the field near Danforth Chapel. During the winter months, basketball, bowling, and badminton are offered, while tennis and golf are included in the spring. The Stunts and Tumbling Club meets twice each week in the Women's Gym for work and play on the trampoline and in tumbling. Each of these clubs usually meets two or three days a week for a period of approximately eight weeks. Perhaps swimming is your star accomplishment. Then you'll be eager to try out for Seals, the feminine counterpart of the Dolphin Fraternity. Members of Seals work on synchronized swimming, diving, and water ballet. As part of the Mother's Day week end each spring, the Seals Show is presented. A probationary period of one semester is required before a girl can become an active member. Penguins Club teaches basic fundamentals of syncrhonized swimming, and here you can polish up your style. It is entirely separate from the Seals. 28
