[hand drawing of man at bus stop] On Wednesday afternoon, September 24, the Iowa Memorial Union will be the terminal for an Activities Open House by the many campus organizations. The doors of the Main Lounge will be open from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for this large display. Information booths and guides will be on hand to answer any questions you may have concerning these groups. At the same time, dancing will be offered in the River Room of the Union. Here's your opportunity to sign up for some subcommittee jobs or just find out more about the extracurricular program at Iowa. President and Mrs. Hancher will be at home to welcome you Wednesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. It's and open house in your honor and a chance to get acquainted with members of the faculty and staff as well as other students. The correspondence from your AWS orientation leader and assistant will keep you posted on the details of these arrangements for New Student Week. An impressive Induction Ceremony will start the first day of classes Thursday, September 25. Students will assemble at 9:25 a.m. on the west side of Old Capitol, while the band plays some of our Iowa favorites and President Hancher, accompanied by the deans of the various colleges, bids us all a warm welcome. With the season's first football game coming up on Saturday, September 27, you'll want to attend the rousing pep meeting Friday night before the opener. Also that evening, the Iowa Memorial Union will stage an open house for all new students. There will be tours of the building and many people to see. And, of course, you can't miss the game against Texas Christian University at the Stadium on Saturday. Here's the real chance you'll have to mingle with the entire student body in the cheering section and show them you're as loyal an Iowa coed as they'll ever find. Up with the banners and "Let's have an Iowa ECHO!" 11
