Of special interest is the annual international contest in debate between the select SUI team and that of some foreign country. Another channel of speech activity lies in the field of radio broadcasting. The University';s own station WSUI, provides experience for many interested students. Announcing, engineering, acting, and writing are all essential parts of this speech program. Broadcasting continues for fourteen hours daily, except on Sundays. Television likewise captures a great deal of student enthusiasm. The University studios located in the Old Armory have the capacity for actual closed circuit broadcasting. Again, courses are offered in this area, and freshmen as well as students in the field and welcome to participate. [hand drawing of boy reading] Publications While you're here at SUI, you'll receive The Daily Iowan our own school newspaper. It's coverage is outstanding for a student production. It includes everything from national and international news to the latest scoop on campus life. Journalism experience is beneficial to any student in the field of editing, copyreading, photography, and advertising, so work on an actual publication such as The Daily Iowan is highly advisable. Those interested may apply at the Communications Center. A large issue of the University Hawkeye comes out every spring. This year book helps you keep in mind forever the wonderful years spent in college. The Hawkeye staff is composed both of people majoring in journalism and those outside the field. The help of some one hundred workers is needed each year, so perhaps you would enjoy taking a part in this large production. The actual staff positions are filled each fall semester and continue throughout the year. Other publications of particular interest to women are those produced by Panhellenic, AWS, and Student Council. Additional information concerning sorority Rush Week is provided in the Panhellenic Handbook, which comes out each summer and is sent to prospective students who are interested in 20
