[hand drawing of woman] YWCA The services of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) are well known and popular on campus. The main accomplishments of the group are in the area of religion, education and social activities . Some of the projects that represent these fields of interest are as follows. Freshman Y Incoming freshman girls are invited to join and participate in the program of "Y" events. This group gives you the best start . As a member of Freshman "Y" you will become better acquainted with the overall scope of the YWCA as a total group. Also, you will be able to help in the yearly Homecoming Badge Sale conducted by members of the "Y" Freshman elect their own council of officers and co-operate in the functions of the total "Y" World Relatedness Visiting in the homes of faculty members and an annual book selling drive for aid to foreign countries are among the activities promoted by this "Y" committee. The main objectives of this division are to create better international relations and particularly a friendly feeling among SUI students and those of other countries. Closely associated with this group is the commission on Christian Heritage, which encourages interdenominational services in Danforth Memorial Chapel and organizes special study groups on philosophy and religion. Personal Service Jobs rendering a service both to the employer and to the girls employed are obtained through the "Y" baby sitting bureau. A minimum wage is established and the girls learn some of the necessities of proper child care. Mothers seeking sitters may call the "Y" officer and get workers from a list of interested coeds. Other jobs supplied by the "Y" consist of office work at the YWCA main office and some camp jobs during the summer months. Community Service In a program designed to improve relations between the University students and townspeople, "Y" women now spend many hours a week doing volunteer 28
