Water Events Are you as content in a swimming cap as in a fancy hat? Well, there's no reason you need to decide, because you can have both. But in case you're sincerely interested in the underwater life of a synchronized swimmer, here's another good club to join. Tryouts are conducted each fall for those interested in the appropriately named Seals and organization of experienced swimmers. This talented group of girls produces a swimming show during the big University Mother's Day Weekend Penguins is a separate club for those wishing to learn or practice the basic skills of synchronized swimming. Both water clubs afford their members a wealth or recreation and fun. When spring rolls around, traveling is the thing at SUI. More invigorating than a convertible ride is a sprightly venture down the Iowa River paddling a canoe. Water sports are in the spotlight for Mother's Day Weekend. Especially exciting is the "Canoe Capers" for men and women who think they are proficient in water travel. Camping Whether you like to take adventure hikes or just "rough it" a little, you'll find Camping Club very useful to your understanding and enjoyment of the outdoors. Cookouts and overnight excursions are planned and carried out bu the group. Skill in the activities of this group may be very helpful in securing summer camp counselorships or recreational jobs, in addition to being entertaining for you while you're in college. Intramurals WRA intramurals fulfill a very necessary hob for the women's physical education program at SUI. Its activities are extensive to provide for the many different interests. Competition in individual sports (tennis, golf, badminton. bowling, etc) team sports (basketball, volleyball, softball, etc) and swimming are offered in this program. Many of the sport are also adapted to mixed participation by both men and women. Each housing unit on campus has teams organized to compete in the intramural tournaments. Points are awarded to individual participants for attending the events and the team as a whole likewise receives points for winning matches. The total scores of housing units are then recorded for the year, and a traveling trophy is presented to the group with the largest amount of points. 31
