KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL [hand drawing of woman sitting in chair] It isn't the fast, flashy plays that cover the most ground in football. It's the slow, hard but steady progress toward a goal. When the opposition kicks off, their goal post looks comfortably far away, but it has a disturbing way of getting closer if you have a weak defense. During those first weeks of classes it's easy to forget the inevitability of departmentals, midterms, and finals. Remember the game starts with the first whistle and you have to play EVERY MINUTE until the final gun. If you're confused about the rules, find someone who can explain them to you. First on this list is your adviser. If you have declared a major, he will be in your chosen field. He is qualified and willing to answer any questions. He will help you work out your schedule. Confusing terms such as "hours" "core courses" and "electives" will be defined. A schedule for this year will be set up, as well as a tentative plan for your next three years. Your adviser will sign your schedule at the Field House 10
