Foreign Student Committee Good evening, guten abend, bon soir, dabrae dane - an evening at the International Center has begun. Whether it be a foreign student dinner or preparation for the International Festival, there is always an air of friendly congeniality prevailing. And this is just what the AWS Foreign Student committee wants. SUI, as is true of most universities, has many students from other lands. here at the International Center you have a unique opportunity to meet them and learn about their various homelands and cultures. As is said at the Center, " It is amazing how much you can learn over a cup of Chinese tea." Sign up for one of the committees, and you will soon find yourself helping to plan a dinner for a national group featuring a menu typical of their country's food. Or perhaps you'll be working on the International Festival, an annual event in which all national groups present skits which relate to cultural traits of the countries, colorfully illustrated by dances in authentic national costume. There are the students who are a living realization of the high value placed on a college education obtained in the United States. here for an education, they do a good job of educating us. Student-Faculty Coffee Hours The Student-Faculty Coffee Hours committee of the Associated Women Students is responsible for planning six coffee hours throughout the year. Various departments of the faculty are invited to each coffee hour and all students are welcome at any of all coffee hours. Not all the coffee hours are limited to the faculty. President Hancher, the administrators, and their wives are invited to the first coffee hour of the year at the Iowa Memorial Union. One of the most interesting coffee hours is the one which honors foreign students. Usually held in the University Library Student Lounge, these coffee hours are informal, and free coffee and cookies are always served. This gives the students an excellent opportunity to chat with their instructors and become better acquainted with them. it also gives the faculty an opportunity to visit with each other, a pleasure sometimes limited by their busy schedules. This fall girls interested in working on this program will have an opportunity to sign up for one of the four committees: publicity, arrangements, hostess, or contact, The publicity committee advertises the coffee hours through posters and radio and newspaper announcements ;the arrangements committee buys, prepares, and serves the coffee and cookies; the member of the hostess committee serve as hostesses at the 25
