It is good to know your teachers as well as your texts, and the informality is conductive to an excellent learning situation. Central Judiciary SUI has certain rules and regulations concerning women's hours and other matters of conduct more fully explained in the Code of Student Life manual, which will be in your room when you arrive. The Central Judiciary Board formulates and administers these policies. Membership comes form the women's dormitories, the Independent Town Women's Association and the Panhellenic Association here at SUI. Central Judiciary reviews infractions and decides what action should be taken while at the same time considering the circumstances of each case with which it deals. The chairman of this group is on AWS General Council. American Red Cross The college unit of the American Red Cross works very closely with the recreation department of the Veterans Hospital located here in Iowa City. Each year t Halloween, Valentine's Day, and in the spring, a party is given to which the whole hospital is invited. The girls on this committee serve as hostesses. Entertainment is a mutual undertaking. The girls present a program for the veterans, and the men give one for the girls. Later in the evening, group folk dancing and community singing take place. Another aspect of this committee is the individual ward work. Here the girls read to the men, write letters home for them or just sit and chat for a half hour or so. Breaking the monotony of the long hospital hours for these men separated from their families during the week is the function of this active service project. Varsity Varieties Varsity Varieties is the variety show presented in connection with OLD GOLD DAYS, the weekend event designed to display the State University of Iowa to high school seniors who are superior academically and/or superior in leadership qualities. The primary purpose of Old Gold Days is to give those outstanding high school students the opportunity to tour the campus to observe and ask questions about the various 26
