September 22 marks the beginning of your academic training, and a slow start could mean eventual defeat. Helping you to steer a successful course will be your University adviser, who will be constantly on hand to assist you in establishing a satisfactory study schedule. Here also is someone to clear up any confusion which may arise in regard to the usage of terms such as "core courses", "hours," and "electives." While tentatively planning your schedule it's well to keep time and graduation requirements in mind. A total of thirty to thirty-five hours is usually suggested as the amount of time which should be devoted to studying each week. This is assuming that the student is carrying a normal load of sixteen credit hours per semester, allowing about two hours of one's own time to be spent for every session in the classroom. A new student in the College of Liberal Arts must also be concerned with the fulfillment of what are known as core requirements. 13
