STUDENT COUNCIL An agency of student government is not lacking at SUI. Fulfilling such a representative and service function is our twenty-two member Student Council, which operates in conjunction with the Student Body President, Cabinet and Student Court. Council meetings are open to the University community at large for discussion concerning such campus issues as parking restrictions, housing and employment policies, seating for football games, and academic honesty. In turn, members of the Council are able to sit in on a number of University committees as representatives of student opinion and interests. Entertainment is not beyond the scope of our student government. Each year it is seen to operate in relation to Orientation, the Miss SUI Pageant and the CPC selection committee. A relatively new feature of this body is the Court. Handling both traffic and election appeals, it had acted on more than 700 cases since its introduction two years ago. In keeping with its goals of fair and representative government, the Council draws its members from every student group. Basic to its construction and operation is its representation on the basis of housing units, this being divided between men's and women's dorms, married student housing, Panhellenic and Interfraternity Association and off campus housing. UNION BOARD The spotlight seems always to fall upon the Iowa Memorial Union for it is here that many of the major banquets, lectures, all-University dances, movies, teas and concerts are held throughout the school year. The planning and organization required for such a diversity of events falls in the hands of the Union Board and its sixteen members, who represent every college on our campus Each of these individuals is elected in the spring and is assigned responsibility i a particular area over which Union Board governs. Aiding members in their work are some sixty-four subcommittee members who, after at least a year's experience, are eligible for chairmanships. Always on the lookout for new talent, Union Board needs people like you so that it may continue to initiate and promote student activities which are of educational, cultural, religious and social interest. CENTRAL PARTY COMMITTEE Interested in lending a hand with preparations for an all-University dance or concert? If so, Central Party Committee is the group to see.
