DANCE GROUPS Lovers of modern dance find fun and new frontiers opening for them at each meeting of Orchesis. With assistance of the Women's Physical Education Department, members learn many new dance forms, as well as developing some of their own creation. Social dancers have also formed a club which plans events for interested men and women on the campus. Announcement of these group meetings and lessons are published in The Daily Iowan, so if dancing is your line keep those eyes open. SPORTS CLUBS Want to meet girls interested in gymnastics or the great outdoors? WRA offers you the opportunity with its activities for tennis players, campers, tumblers and hockey fans. There is even a Rifle Club, which meets weekly to perfect these skills, and prepare for competition in intercollegiate matches. Participation is lots of fun, and the experience provided will prove invaluable should you desire a summer position in camp counseling or local recreation. SWIMMING CLUBS Swimming fans may be eager to try out for Seals Club, a synchronized swimming group of considerable ability. Highlighting their season is a program presented in the Field House pool during Mother's Day Weekend, when members don their colorful costumes and display their skill. If you're still in need of polishing those aquatic techniques and not yet prepared to enter Seals, then the Penguins is the club for you. As practice makes perfect, you may soon be ready to advance into the more professional organization. Both groups select new members early in the fall so you now have another announcement to watch for in campus publications. INTRAMURALS Housing units find fun under WRA and its intramural program when they compete with other units in a series of sports events. Beginning the season is a swimming meet in the Women's Gymnasium, followed by competitive matches in tennis, bowling, volleyball, table tennis, and basketball as the year progresses. Individual and team events add variety to the program. Many sports are also adapted to mixed participation by both men and women. At the program's end the total number of points accumulated by each housing unit are calculated, and a traveling trophy is presented to the victor. 31
