THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA Iowa City, Iowa 52240 Office of the President November 19, 1970 Professor Marshall McKusick Department of Anthropology Macbride Dear Professor McKusick: In accordance with the memorandum issued under Provost Heffner's name and attached to the second-semester class lists in May, 1970, I am asking you to apply option 3 of the plan of options in the case of Mr. Scott A. Ferris, 481-66-4576, and to all other students in his circumstance. The Provost's memo stated in part, "The options set the standard for grading, and no instructor is free to grade on another basis if one of the options is elected." Option 3 directs that students are to receive the grade on work completed as of May 3, 1970. In cases in which there was not enough data avaialble to give a normal letter grade, the grade of "P" (pass) should be assigned. This directive is consistent with the Provost's memo. All such students should be immediately notified so that they will not be unduly penalized in this regard. I very much appreciated the opportunity to discuss this with you and I am grateful for your cooperation.
