The Office of Admissions and Registrar assists students in determining their graduation requirements, processing their degree applications, interpreting college and University academic regulations, and obtaining Selective Service information. It provides official transcripts for students transferring to other schools, applying for employment, or seeking teacher certification or professional licensure. Through its High School Services program, it provides pre-college counseling. It also provides special counseling to military service veterans, prospective foreign students, and all other applicants requesting it. This office prepares and distributes to all students the University's Schedule of Courses, and is a center for the distribution of University Catalogs and other academic publications. It also administers all official academic ceremonies and convocations, including Commencement, for which it processes applications for graduation, and furnishes diplomas, printed programs, and related materials. Advisory Services From the time you enter the University until you leave it, a member of the faculty is responsible, as your academic adviser, for helping you plan and pursue the study program best suited to your educational interests. Generally you're required to see your academic adviser before you register and any time you want to change your registration—by adding or dropping a course, for example. However, it is to your advantage to see him oftener; the better you know each other, the better he can advise you. Except in an emergency, you should see your adviser by apointment, so that he can be prepared to give you his full attention when he sees you. Since the adviser system involves human nature, it sometimes matches a student and adviser who don't "click." If that happens to you, go to the Liberal Arts Advisory Office, or to your departmental or college office if you're not in Liberal Arts, and ask for a change of advisers. But remember, your adviser can't answer questions you don't ask, nor do his responsibilities include organizing search parties to bring you in for conferences. The primary responsibility for your proper registration and satisfactory academic progress is yours. Liberal Arts Advisory Office 116 Schaeffer Hall Academic advisers to student enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts are assigned by the Liberal Arts Advisory Office. If you're enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and want to change academic advisers, declare or change your major, or get help with an academic problem sooner than your regular academic adviser is available to help you, go to the Liberal Arts Advisory Office. This office also administers the Credit by Examination program in the College of Liberal Arts. Student Advisory Committee Comprising men and women undergraduate students, the Student Advisory Committee assists in introducing new students to University life, particularly through service in various Summer and Fall Orientation programs. Residence Hall Advisers Students living in University residence halls can get information and assistance from advisers in their residence units. 4
