Parties to be held outside Iowa City must be cleared in advance with the Office of Student Affairs and approval obtained. Women students attending such functions may not have an overnight sign-out from their place of residence. III. Approval and Registration of Social Functions A. Social functions of student groups may be held only after approval by the Office of Student Affairs. Requests for such approval must be filed not later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday before the party for informal parties, and all formal parties must be registered at least one week before the date of the party. Functions requiring advance planning (such as band contracts, ordering programs, favors, etc.) must be approved before arrangements are made, contracts signed, or invitations issued. B. Impromptu gatherings in student residences will be reported by the authorized housemother or supervisor on the next business day following the function. IV. Chaperons for Student Parties. All student social functions should include faculty guests and must have official chaperons as set forth in the following paragraphs A, B, and C. Names of chaperons must be reported to the Office of Student Affairs not later then 5:00 p.m. on the Wednesday before the party for informal parties and at least one week in advance for all formal parties. A. Organized group social functions held in a group residence having a residence head or housemother shall have as chaperon the residence head or housemother. B. Organized group social functions held in the Iowa Memorial Union should include faculty guests. Committees in charge of social functions are responsible to the Director of the Union and his staff for cooperation in maintaining a high standard of social conduct. C. All group social functions not held in a group residence or in the Iowa Memorial Union must be chaperoned by two married non-student couples, one of whom must be from the University faculty or administrative staff. A mature staff member of the rank of instructor, or its administrative equivalent, or above will be required. D. Faculty guests should be included in all student social functions for the purpose of providing opportunities for student-faculty relationships outside the classroom. E. The chaperons and guests should be asked well in advance of the event, should be provided with transportation, if such is necessary, and should be introduced to the officers and other members of the entertaining group upon arrival.
