permission must be obtained IN ADVANCE from the house director. Absences of a longer duration must be referred to the Counselor to Women. (Nursing students at Westlawn may sign out when class and practice schedules permit.) Any sign-out must be canceled by closing hours if not used. A. Regular Sign-Outs. The sign-out slip must be used whenever a student leaves her place of residence overnight. A girl must personally sign out with her house director before 8:00 p.m. and must leave her housing unit before closing hours. Permission to return after closing hours must be obtained from the house director. Students who live in private homes must sign out in the Office of Student Affairs by 5:00 p.m. Friday. Each girl must also sign in with the house director upon returning to her residence. B. Student Trips 1. All student trips are expected to conform with regular opening and closing hours. 2. A trip should be cleared IN ADVANCE with the Counselor to Women when it involves special hours or hotel or motel permission. (Exception: When accompanied by a faculty chaperon, hotel or motel permission is not required.) C. Hotel or Motel Permission. A girl may secure permission to stay overnight in a hotel or motel only when a letter of consent from her parents to the Counselor to Women giving full details for each special occasion has been received. Exception will be made when the girl will be with her parents or with a faculty chaperon. D. Iowa City Permission. Sign-outs to private homes in Iowa City are discouraged; permission will be granted only at the discretion of the house director. A girl must sign out in the same manner as for an out-of-town overnight absence. Such permission is given for Friday and Saturday nights only. E. Vacation Periods. Each girl is required to sign out and sign in for vacations in the manner specified in her housing unit. F. Travel by Car. When traveling by car, a girl should make arrangements to leave Iowa City at an hour which will prevent late night driving and allow the student to arrive at her destination at a reasonable hour. The student must return to her housing unit by closing hours when returning to Iowa City. If she is delayed, she should call the house director explaining the cause of her delay. G. Travel by Train or Bus. If a student is to return to her housing unit by train or bus later than regular closing hours, she must obtain special permission from the house director BEFORE leaving for the weekend. V.
