CHAPTER V—FRATERNITY RESIDENCE GROUPS I. Definition. The regulations in this chapter apply to all student fraternal groups. II. Pledging, Initiation, and Affiliation A. A student on academic or conduct probation may not be pledged, initiated, or affiliated from another chapter. B. A student admitted to the University may be pledged any time after beginning of orientation activities. Additional requirements for pledging consistent with this Code may be imposed by action of the appropriate fraternity governing body. C. A student classified as a freshman may be initiated after completing one full semester of work 1 at this university with at least a 2.0 cumulative average on all work previously undertaken. Additional requirements for initiation consistent with this Code may be imposed by action of the appropriate fraternity governing body. D. A pledge must be registered for a minimum fulll load 1 in the college of registration during the semester in which initiation takes place. Seniors not needing 12 credits 1 to meet graduation requirements and graduate students are exempt from this rule. E. A student admitted in good standing, classified as a sophomore or above, having a 2.0 cumulative average or its equivalent on all college work previously undertaken and registered in the University, may be pledged at any time. He may be initiated after completing the semester in which he was pledged, if his grade-point average for that semester is at least 2.0. F. Fraternities may initiate pledges only after obtaining a certificate of eligibility from the Office of Student Affairs. Requests for such certificates should be made at least two weeks prior to the date of expected initiation. G. A pledge who fails to qualify for initiation because of poor grades in a preceding semester may be continued, at the discretion of the fraternity, as a pledge for an additional semester. If the grades for that additional semester do not qualify for initiation, the pledgeship shall be terminated. Upon a showing of good cause, the office of Student Affairs may authorize the pledgeship to be extended for a third semester. III. Membership Lists. Each fraternity must keep at all times in the Office of Student Affairs a current file of its members, pledges, and officers. 1 The Office of Student Affairs has defined one full semester of work to be a minimum of 12 semester hours or its equivalent in the professional colleges for which grades A, B, C, D, or F have been received.
