J. House Operations During Vacation Periods 1. Fraternity houses may remain open during school year vacations only with the permission of the Office of Student Affairs. 2. During the summer session, houses which are open to students must be supervised by the housemother and will operate under the same rules which apply to fraternity houses during the fall and spring semester. Houses not open to students may remain locked during the summer or may make arrangements with a graduate student couple to occupy the house as caretakers during the summer. Graduate student couples, who must be approved by the Fraternity Affairs Office, will be responsible for the security of the house while they are in residence. In situations where couples are in residence no other students or non-students will be allowed to reside in these houses. K. Closed Houses. If a fraternity hosue is closed, it must be securely locked so as to make it inaccessible to anyone and so reported by the chapter president to the Office of Student Affairs. Entrance by any member or pledge during the period of closure shall be only upon specific permission of the Office of Student Affairs. Chapter houses which are closed for the summer may be opened for summer rush parties providing the following conditions are met: 1. The Office of Student Affairs is notified on the usual official social function report form two weeks prior to the date of the rush party. 2. The housemother and/or the chapter adviser must be present for the rush party. 3. If women guests are included in the rush party, the housemother or two married, non-student couples, one of whom must be full-time faculty or staff, must be present as chaperons. The chaperons must be reported at the time the party is registered. L. Obligations of the University. In order to assist in maintaining an adequate membership in each chapter and to cooperate in carrying out the purposes announced in the Decalog of Fraternity Policy promulgated by the National Interfraternity Conference and the Joint Declaration of Reciprocal Relations between College and Fraternity established in 1938 by the Association of American Colleges and the National Interfraternity Conference, the University will: 1. Reaffirm its recognition of fraternity living groups and their houses not only as an essential part of the housing facilities of the Uni- [18]
