CHAPTER VI—STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS I. Definition. Any group or organization admitting students to its membership is declared to be a student organization and is subject to the regulations of this section if its program or activities require the use of campus facilities or if its program or activities are deemed to affect student morale or welfare. II. Limitation of Scope for Student Organizations. Each recognized student organization must operate within the structure of its own constitution and by-laws, or statement of purpose, and shall not infringe upon the prerogatives of other properly constituted groups. III. Advisers to Student Organizations. Each student organization must have one or more advisers who are members of the University faculty or administrative staff. A. It is the responsibility of the adviser to attend the meetings of the group he advises, to be active with the group in formulating policies and programs of activities, to see that the activities of the group are in keeping with purposes of the organization and the University, and that they are executed in accordance with University standards of good taste and conduct. B. It is the responsibility of the student organization to consider its adviser as an important and active participant of the group, to keep him informed of all meetings, to seek his counsel, and to be aware of his responsibility for the group and its activities. IV. Existing Organizations A. Membership Policy. It is the policy of the University that local student organizations be able to exercise free choice of members on the basis of their merits as individuals without restrictions as to race, color, or national origin. Any organization unable to exercise such free choice as of October 1, 1965, will have its Certificate of Recognition revoked by the Committee on Student Life. B. Registration. Each recognized student organization must register annually with the Office of Student Affairs by submitting the following before October 1 of each year: 1. A list of officers, 2. Names of its faculty adviser or advisers, 3. Evidence that it uses the financial services of the student Organizations Fund, 4. A report of times when regular meetings are scheduled and held, 5. Have on file a copy of its constitution and bylaws and other documents or reports that pertain to membership regulations. (In case an organization has no written constitution and bylaws, a statement setting forth its purposes, basis of membership, fees [22]
