III. Rules and Regulations. The Iowa Memorial Union is the hearthstone of the University campus. University rules and regulations apply as in any other University building. It is expected that those making use of the Iowa Memorial Union building and facilities will conform to those standards which govern the conduct of ladies and gentlemen. A. Only authorized sales of food, merchandise, and tickets by the Dining Service and the Information Desk are permitted in the Iowa Memorial Union. No private sales or solicitations are permitted, except that, by special permission of the Director, approved student organizations sponsoring events of All-University interest, the proceeds of which are accounted for in the Student Organizations Fund, may sell tickets in the Union over a period not to exceed one week, and Homecoming Badges may be sold in the Union by authorized representatives of the Homecoming committee. B. The public charge made for any meal at the Iowa Memorial Union may not include any "loading" for overhead or extra expenses. A ticket may be prepared and sold, however, which sets forth as different items the food service cost, extra or special charges and the total. C. No classes may be held in the Union Building. The educational program of the Iowa Memorial Union is non-curricular and informal. D. Gambling and the use of intoxicating liquor are prohibited. E. Smoking is not permitted at concerts, lectures, recitals, dances and other events for which audiences are assembled in the Main Lounge and the River Room of the Iowa Memorial Union Building Exception to this rule shall be by special permission of the Director in connection with events for which tables are set and/or food is served. F. Equipment in the Iowa Memorial Union is provided for use on the premises and is not available for loan. G. No photographs may be taken in the Iowa Memorial Union except with permission of the Director. Photographers authorized to take pictures of any party held in the Union must secure a building pass. H. The areas known as the Terrace Lounge, Music Room, Browsing Library, and Gold Feather, together with the lobbies, may not be reserved or assigned for exclusive use by an individual group, or organization. These areas are designed to be continuously available to all members of the University family. [32]
