CHAPTER I - GENERAL REGULATIONS I. Standard of Conduct. The standard of conduct for persons attending the University is the practice and usage of good society. The University expects every student to conduct himself at all times and on every occasion in accordance with good taste and to observe the regulations of the University and the laws of the city, state, and national government that apply to matters of conduct. II, Intoxicating Beverages. The possession or consumption of beer, wine, or other intoxicating beverages in violation of University regulations of the laws of the State of Iowa is cause for dismissal or other penalties. A. (Excerpt from 124.20, CODE OF IOWA) "It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, give, or make available to any minor or to permit any minor to purchase or consume any beer... or for any minor to buy or attempt to buy or secure or to attempt to secure beer from any person, and it shall further be unlawful for any person to offer beer... to any minor." B The possession or consumption of beer, wine, or other intoxicating beverages by any student on the campus or within a residence hall, chapter house, or in approved off-campus housing shall be considered a violation of University regulations. C. No beer, wine, or other intoxicating beverages may be served at any student function. Violations of this rule may be cause for suspension of the social privileges of the offending organization or for suspension of its chapter. III. Gambling. Gambling by any student on campus or within any student residence is prohibited and is cause for disciplinary action. Such persons will also be in violation of the laws of the State of Iowa. IV. Cheating. Any student found guilty of dishonesty in academic work is subject to dismissal from the University or to other penalties. Instructors in courses and deans of colleges are primarily responsible for the enforcement of this rule. V. Housing. All single, undergraduate students under age twenty-one are required to live in housing approved by the University; namely, residence halls, fraternity or sorority chapter houses, University houses, or parental homes. (See Chapter III) Graduate students, married students, and single students over twenty-one may live in residences not specifically approved by the University, providing that, in the cases of single students, the age of twenty-one is reached prior to or during the session in which such housing is to be occupied. Failure to comply with this eligibility requirement based upon age is cause for cancellation of registration. [2]
