CHAPTER IV—SOCIAL REGULATIONS I. Definition. The regulations of this section apply to any party, exchange, picnic, or other social function sponsored or planned by an organized student group. Sponsorship is determined by the group's participation in planning, notification, and financing rather than by the number of members attending the event. II. Approval and Registration of Social Functions A. Social functions of student groups may be held only after approval by the Office of Student Affairs. All social functions attended by men and women students must be reported. Requests for approval must be filed at least twenty-four hours before the function and informal weekend events must be reported not later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday before the party, while all formal events must be registered one week in advance. Parties to be held outside Iowa City must be approved at least one week in advance by the Office of Student Affairs. Functions requiring advanced planning (such as band contracts, ordering programs, favors, etc.) must be approved before such arrangements are made, contracts signed, or invitations issued. B. Approved Places. Student social functions may be held only in places approved by the Office of Student Affairs. Student groups are advised to check approval of places before scheduling an event. C. Hours for Functions. 1. Except for afternoon dances sponsored by the Student Union Board, dancing parties may be given only on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings or on a weekday preceding a holiday. 2. Social functions held on week nights, including exchanges and similar functions in student residences, are to be concluded by 8:00 p.m. 3. All student parties on Friday or Saturday nights must close not later than 12:30 a.m., except those being held outside Iowa City which must close by midnight. 4.
