22 Boston Show, Week of Oct. 7, 1907. (Carl D. Lothrop) (Monday Oct. 7--Afternoon Show.) Overture. 1.30, 9 min. Donnelly Rotali. On at 1.39, 19 min, in 1, 3 shows. Man and woman in a fairly good singing act. Think they could hold the number two spot in the small cities satisfactorily. Willie Warton[[?]]. On at 1.55[[?]], 9 min, in 1, 3 shows. Clever young mimic, well known on the circuit. The only fault I have to find with him is that he has shortened the time of his act from 15 min. However, he stated that he will do 12 min. or more tonight. He claims that the shrinkage is on account of his singing short songs than before. I would not hesitate to use him as late as 3 and 9, if necessary. Paulton & Dooley. On at 2.04, 12 min, full stage. As good a comedy bicycle act as there is in the business. I am a little afraid that vaudeville audiences are tiring of bicycle acts, for, clever as these fellows are, they aroused very little enthusiasm this afternoon. Anderson & Goines. On at 2.16, 13 min, in 1. There is not better value in the business today for the money than these two colored comedians, singers and dancers at $100. We would be satisfied if we were paying them double that. Anderson is one of the best eccentric dancers I know, and I have suggested to him that it would help the act if he will do more dancing. I also think that he would do better work in a more grotesque make-up. Clara Ballerini. On at 2.31, 10 min, full stage. Held this place very acceptably. Will make good on any bill. She is pretty and graceful, and her trapeze work is out of the ordinary. Lew Bloom. On at 2.41, 20 min in 1. Bloom went very well indeed this afternoon and I would not hesitate to use him next to closing the show, if I had to. However, I think that we will get better value out of him this week in this spot. He has a good line of talk and some good parodies. Salerno. On at 3.01, 18 min, full stage. Second week. Made even a bigger hit today that on last Monday. He is certainly "The Master Juggler". Stella Mayhew. On at 3.19, 12 min, in 1. Miss Mayhew is suffering from a severe cold, so only sang three songs this afternoon. She is a great favorite int his city, and will certainly draw some money. In company with Mr. Shea, of Buffalo, I saw the full stage act she was supposed to do this season, with the assistance of Billee Taylor and Miss Clement, at the 125th St. Theatre last Thursday night. Mr. Shea and I both agreed that the sketch was absolutely impossible and detracted greatly from miss Mayhew's worth. It was a case of sacrificing a very valuable act in 1 and presenting a full stage act that did not make good. I had a talk with Miss Mayhew and Mr. Taylor today, and they are satisfied to do the act in 1, if that is what the managers want. To my mind, the act in 1 is worth ten times the sketch. Make a satisfactory opening act for the [[?]] The Kalmos. On at 5.04, 10 min, in 1, 3 shows. Man and woman who do international dances in costume. Would be O.K. for number two in many of the small cities. The Walters. On at 5.14, 14 min, full stage, 3 shows. Without question the worst act we have had here this season. Would close them for the fact that they have played other houses on the circ and got away with it. Beware! Comment. I consider this an excellent show. It moves smoothly and abounds in comedy. It is distinctly a variety show, without a dramatic sketch. No cuts.
