NOVEMBER 18, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. BROOKS & VEDDER:- 14 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:11. Man and woman, the former working straight and the woman in German girl comedy. This is a good act to start the show, being full of ginger, both working very hard to please. Received quite a number of laughs and after a lively dance went off to good hand, and one curtain call.- "GREAT SCOTT," "London fireman ladder act":- 10 min. F. S. 2 shows. On at 7:25. This is a very novel athletic act and should have a good place on any bill. Man appears in costume of London fireman. Climbs up a ladder twenty rounds high, balancing himself and disrobes, disclosing a brilliant athletic costume. Proceeds to do various stunts on this high perch. His is a very nervy act. the feats consist of playing mandolin, juggling rings and balls, and each one commands good applause. Went off to a very strong hand for an act of this kind. It is evident that its novelty and daring appeal strongly. BLACK & JONES, Col. S. & D:- 12 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 3:35. This is a highly recommended coon act. The singing is only fair, but the comedy introduced into the eccentric dancing catches the gallery. Closed with the best hand I ever heard a coon pair receive in this house. Two curtain calls MACARTE SISTERS:- 14 min. F. S. 2 shows. On at 7:47. Open with mandolin and guitar selection which they do very acceptably. They are all pretty and of pleasing appearance. Proceed to work on the tight wire and thence to the trapeze. The last feature includes a butterfly dance by one of the girls on a slack wire held in the teeth of the two other women. Went off to a big hand. A novel and pleasing act all through. MINNIE WHITE, Local Vocaliste:- 12 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:01. Local singer. Has good "parlor" voice, but by no means remarkable. Being a local favorite, in a way, has a pretty strong following and will draw business. Three changes of costume, all of them very stunning. Closed with good hand and curtain call. EDWIN STEVENS & CO. "A Night Out":- 26 min. F. S. 2 shows. On at 8:13. Good advance hand. After seeing Stevens in this act I can believe that he can do anything with the slightest sort of material. "A Night Out" is filled with witty chatter from end to end, interspersed with bright songs, but on the whole without any particular coherence. Stevens is a born comedian, and has a pleasing way of taking the audience into his confidence. Crowd interested throughout and gave him six curtain calls and an encore. Think him unwise not to secure a more consequential assistant than Miss Marshall. This could be done without dimming his own lustre, but on the contrary strengthening it. OTTO BROTHERS, German comedians:- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:38. Advance hand. these people are O.K. around about the nine o'clock spot. Their nonsense is good, and they make the best of the comedy situations. One of the brothers has a remarkable voice, singing baritone and falsetto solos, alternately, very amusingly. Closed with a rapid-clatter wooden shoe dance, which gave them the big close. A good act. as woman) dress in Japanese costume. Juggle with tambourines, balls, knives, etc. Very swift in action and not a little comedy infused into the act. The knife-juggling feat got big applause. The closing feature GENERAL REMARKS:- This is a very strong show and I could quote a dozen flattering lines from a dozen newspapers to that effect. there was no falldown on the bill, and the supper section is quite the strongest we have ever had. Business will no doubt be excellent for the balance of the week with such attractions as these.- CUTS AND OBJECTIONS:- JULIUS TANNEN:- reference to "teacher laying eggs on table."-
