DECEMBER 16, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. DANCING BELLES:- 14 min. in 2. 3 shows. On at 7:04. This is a local act. four little girls ranging from ten to fourteen years of age. Sing and dance very nicely. Act makes very acceptable opener, being well costumed, with two changes. Got good closing hand and curtain call. LOWELL B. DREW:- 12 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:18. Local boy, who used to be connected with this house and who has a considerable local following. He has been working around in the smaller houses, finally appearing in Boston and Providence with success. Gave imitations of Jack Norworth, Sam Bernard, Harry Lauder, "Music Master" and George Evans, all of them very clever and got good applause, particularly the ones of Harry Lauder, Warfield and Evans. Think that he will do very well this week. Press very encouraging. THE PELOTS:-Juggling:- 18 min. F.S. close in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:30 Man and woman, the former working eccentric booby, and the woman in dainty white costume. Well known act with very little variations from their previous work. Include some juggling, catching apples on the fork thrown from audience, etc. Close in one was very good, with one curtain call. ELITE MUSICAL FOUR:- 16 min. F.S. close in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:48. These people make up in versatility what they lack in finish. It is a good act. Play on horns, musical bottles, xylophones, saxaphones, cornets, etc. Make good presentation in fine military costume, with two changes. Get good hands, and closed strong. HOLDEN'S MANIKINS:- 22 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:04. This is a children's feature. I doubt whether it would be as well received at any other than about the Christmas time, but it quite won the house. The manikins performs various simple stunts, such as dancing, Punch and Judy comedy, etc. The finish of the act was a spectacular feature without moving figures, which did not run as smoothly as it should have done. However, the act will certainly please the little folks and it cannot be conceived how the wooden manikins can be manipulated so life-like. Holden got a good hand on his appearance after the act. COUNTRY CHOIR:- 13 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:26. The popularity of the Village Choir is undoubtedly responsible for the Country Choir. The voices did not seem individually as brilliant as those of the former act nevertheless, they are pleasing, particularly in their chorus work. Each selection got a good hand. Makes pleasing picture in a rustic set in front of a rural drop. EDWARDS DAVIS CO. "The Unmasking":- 21 min. F.S. (2 scenes) 2 shows. On at 8:39. This is the second time this act has been presented here. It is very deftly constructed and spectacular in setting and costume, and although somewhat stilted and stagy at times, nevertheless holds the interest of the audience through the scene in the green room of a London theatre and afterwards the melodramatic one on the Bosworth Field. The audience gave it respectful attention and once in a while small hand. Close was strong with five curtain calls. including the slapstick, the burlesque circus-horse and rider,- and all the rest. Makes a good closer. Plenty of laughs and stiff closer.- KINETOGRAPH:- FISHERIES IN SICILIY:- Very interesting travel film. THE ELEXIR OF STRENGTH:- With a slight expurgation this film made good. THE NOHRENS:-10 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:40. Double trapeze act. This is a skilful and showy act and ought to make a good opener if necessary. Man and woman, both doing the regulation stunts on the circus order. Received good hand for their work throughout and closed well. DUDLEY & CHESLYN:- 14 min. inl. 3 shows. On at 6:50. Man and woman. This is a good standard three-a-day act, both making fair appearance and sing well. GENERAL REMARKS:- A good ante-holiday bill. As re-arranged it plays off smoothly and well. Edwards Davis had a little difficulty at first with his set which is very elaborate and beautiful, but succeeded in making the quick change necessary to the success of his act. Press and public seem to be satisfied with the show which is without a weak spot.-
