DECEMBER 30, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. LILLIAN MAYNARD:-Vocaliste:- 9 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:04. Girl makes a pretty appearance, and sings popular songs acceptably. Could hold a good spot in the three-a-day section, although, with better selections of songs could go into the early two-a-day with favor. J. WARREN KEANE, Magic:- 15 min. in 2. 3 shows. On at 7:15. Sleight-of-hand man, quite out of the ordinary. Did several of the regulation tricks, but introduced some new ones. Has a pleasing personality. His line of talk could be improved upon. Closed with a good hand for an act of this kind. FREDERICK & "DON":- 17 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 7:30 This is a remarkably trained horse. The act is particularly pleasing to the children. The horse does various stuns, such as telling time, mathematical stunts, etc, and seems endowed with human intelligence. Makes a very pretty picture on the stage. Held the interest throughout and closed with a good hand. RUBY RAYMOND & BOYS:- 11 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:47. Very pretty girl who does some contortion dancing that is out of the ordinary. Her two boy assistants are splendid dancers and got a good reception. Closed well, with one curtain call. MARNO TRIO:- Com. Acro:- 12 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 7:58. This is an immense bounding board act. It has the Wotpert Trio beaten at their own game. There is abundance of fun in the act and the bounding-board somersault work is really remarkable. Good comedy also. Constant laughter and applause throughout, and closed with a splendid hand and two curtain calls. A valuable act for any bill. LEO CARILLO:- Impersonations & Imitations:- 13 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:10. Opened with some excellent Chinese stories which were well received. Followed with imitations of animals and birds, much to the delight of the children. Closed with the auto wreck. Carrillo has remarkable imitative talent, and has a pleasing personality. Closed well, with curtain call. GRACIE EMMETT & CO, "Mrs. Murphy's Second Husband":- 25 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:23. Well known act. Held the interest of the audience and won constant laughter all the way through up to a good finish with two curtain calls. Act contains many bright and humorous lines. It was a go. GEORGE WHITING & MELNOTTE TWINS:- 20 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:48. This is one of the most artistic acts of the kind that we have ever played. In fact, it might be called a model for a song and dance trio, full of novelty brilliant in lines, with excellent selection of songs. Girls know how to get the best out of their material, besides making a very fetching appearance in two changes of costume. Act is certainly O.K. for any spot on the bill. Good close, with two curtain calls. MARCO TWINS:- 10 min. in 3. 2 shows. On at 9:08. This act was simply a knock-out with the Holiday crowd. They laughed and screamed from start to finish. It is a great act for all classes of people, old and young. Closed with a whirlwind.- A CRAZY QUILT:- An excellent comedy film, almost as good as the "Rarebit Fiend."- WOOD AND LAWSON:- 10 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:40. Singing and dancing act of the conventional variety. The girl dresses becomingly and dances well. The singing is fair and the dancing is especially good, particularly that of the man who is one of the best in the business. Closed with curtain call and big hand. PRINCE & VIRGINIA:- 16 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:50. A very fair three-a-day local act, becomingly costumed, singing well, and having a fair line of parodies and talking material. GENERAL REMARKS:- This is an ideal Holiday week show. If there were any Quaker City pessimists who had an idea that the show would drop in quality because of the finish of the fight, their illusions are exploded. The show balances beautifully and the comedy element is supreme. The town is on to the fact that they are getting big worth for their money and the result is a jammed house afternoon and evening.
