DECEMBER 23, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. HILLS ANIMALS:- 15 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 7:15. Eight well trained spaniels, terriers, black-and-tan dogs. Work on a dais two feet above the stage. Very pretty trained animal act. Do regulation stunts of balancing, ball-rolling, etc. Some of their feats got a good hand for an act of this kind. Includes a trained goat. Would make a very acceptable opener. GERTIE LE CLAIRE & PICKS:-10 min. in 2. 3 shows. On at 7:30. Aside from the picks there is nothing much to this act. Miss Le Claire is not a beauty, nor dresses very artistically, can neither sing nor dance. She is not much more than the coacher of this act. the picks, two boys and two girls, redeem the feature. They sing fairly well and dance cleverly. The baton swinging and gymnastic work helps the act to a good finish. Received fair hand at the close. AGNES MAHR & CO:- 10. min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 7:40. Makes an impression which is good, in three changes of costumes, all of which are very effective. The act consists of poses, toe-dancing, which gets good hand. Her side partner, Flora Dora, is not particularly impressive as a performer. Got by with a fairly strong closing hand, with one curtain call. RIALTO COMEDY FOUR:-17 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:50. This is a strong vocal and comedy act. The four men appear in costume of the "Rube", auto-chaffeur and golfers. The "Rube" comedian was particularly lively and clever. Good applause after each song, encore and three curtain calls. A. O. DUNCAN:- 21 min. in 2. Close in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:07. Advance hand. Made same hit as on previous occasions. Duncan is a great favorite here and always keeps abreast of the times with a lot of new stuff. this act is particularly pleasing to the children. Closed very well, one curtain call. COUNTESS OLGA ROSSI & FRED PAULO:- 13 min. F. S. Close in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:28. Advance hand. this is a very unconventional act. the Countess makes a beautiful appearance in a stunning gown, singing a song, with Mons. Paulo applauding in the box. He then advances on the stage and sings a couple of duets in a very effective way. the act is decidedly out of the ordinary, but please the audience. Gave them a strong hand- after each selection and an encore and two curtain calls. WOTPERT TRIO:- 9 min. F. S. 2 shows. On at 8:41. This is a splendid athletic act. Three men who are expert perform feats that command admiration. Work particularly with the bounding board, and hand-to-hand and head-to-head balancing. Jumping and balancing is remarkably clever and each feat received strong applause. The finish was strong, with two curtain calls. This act could hold a good spot wherever an athletic act is required.- CLARK, BERGMAN & MAHONEY:- 12 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:50. Advance hand These people make up in ginger what they lack in individual talent, but they were well liked. The singing is fairly good and the dancing is very good, indeed. Finish was strong.- KINETOGRAPH:- LITTLE GIRL WHO DIDN'T BELIEVE IN SANTA CLAUSE:- Splendid film for the Holidays. Carries consistent plot and is very pleasing to the children. LAUGHING GAS:- Good comedy film. BLANCHARD BROTHERS:-13 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:50. Two boys who play quite well on various instruments, such as cornets, trombones, musical pipes, snare drum and trumpet. The act would make a good opener. It is well dressed and got some scattered and good applause. THE LA BELLES:- 12 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 7:03. Man working tramp eccentric and girl in neat soubrette costume. Juggle with balls, cigar boxes, Indian clubs. Close with hoop rolling stunt which is quite clever. GENERAL REMARKS:- This comes pretty near being an ideal Holiday bill and very carefully booked to that end. There was not a single act that fell down and there seemed to be general satisfaction all 'round. Countess Rossi was a hit, and of course, LLOYD will prove a big drawing card.-
