#3.- Phila. ESPE, DUTTON & ESPE: 10 min. F. S. 3 shows. Three men, one working straight and two clown comedians. This is a good act deserving of a better place on the bill. The comedy is a little bit shy, but their acrobatic work and hand balancing, unacycling and cannon-ball juggling are very much all right. Received good applause. THOMAS POTTER DUNNE:- 17 min. in 1. 3 shows. These impersonations are merely recitations, although fairly well given, they do not bear a very strong resemblance to Warfield, Fritz Emmett, Eddie Clarke, or any body else whom Dunne imitates. Sings well, but at his best, is only a fair three-a-day.- GENERAL REMARKS:- A good average show to follow up the one of last week which was a special Holiday bill. Each act made good in its place assigned on the Program, so that there were no shifts and no cuts. think that IRWIN will continue to draw, although she would do better if she gave us an entire change of program, with the exception of that one song-hit "I'm afraid to Come Home in the Dark". N.B.- In the matter of acts I cannot help but remark that constant expurgation of Vaudeville acts for the past two years has borne fruit. Whereas a year ago we would have from three to ten cuts on every show it is rare now that we have more than one or two, and those too insignificant to make a matter of Circuit report. In other words, the performers are getting on to the fact that our theatres will not stand for anything vulgar, profane or suggestive in word or action, knowing full well they will get a call-down, and moreover that these cuts are reported from theatre to theatre. Naturally sensitive, they dread this sort of thing, with the result that there is less and less that is objectionable, and the only offenders are those who are new on the Circuit. I think this is a matter of no small congratulation for the beginning of the New Year.
