Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of January 13, 1908. (Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr.) The bill is an exceptionally good one with plenty of variety, with good music and comedy, two features always well-liked by Providence audiences. James Dilks. Old fashioned blackface musical comedian. Mr. Dilks has not kept up with the procession. I hardly care to recommend him for the other theatres. 15 Min. in 1. 2 Shows. Hill's Animals. Another very ordinary act only good enough for the 3-a-day section. 15 Min. Full Stage, 3 Shows. Dudley & Cheslyn. Well-known singing act, both have good voices and the woman sings Irish and coon songs with plenty of unction. Very satisfactory offering. 17 Min. in 1, 3 Shows. Romanoffs. A little juggling which does not amount to a great deal followed by some knife throwing by the man at the woman, being the old fashioned impalement act which seemed quite new to this audience yesterday and got them considerable applause. 12 Min. Full Stage, 3 Shows. Ila Grannon. A young woman of simple appearance and pleasing personality - who - in a quiet way, sang a few songs which scored an emphatic success. She could easily be placed in a much more important spot in the bill. 11 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Billy Single Clifford. Mr. Clifford offers us this time the best act he has ever given us. His closing song in which he gets the audience to sing with him is the best thing of that kind I have seen in many a day. I think he is somewhat overpaid- however I think the act is a very good one. 17 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Mme. Hermann. This woman presents one of the most picturesque magic acts in the business and is about the only big turn of this kind that I think is worth playing. At the afternoon performance she consumed 33 Minutes, which I cut down at the night show to 25 Min. and I think this improved it considerably. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Vinie Daly. Miss Daly is well known as one of the best dancers in the business. For a dancer she has also an excellent singing voice. She presents a snappy turn with changes of costume and was decidedly satisfactory to the matinee and evening audiences. 10 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Lasky Quintette. This act seemed to please the audience yesterday afternoon and the newspapers today give them good notices. Personally, I don't care for it, especially from a vaudeville standpoint. I don't think they play the right kind of music and if, as is said, Victor Herbert arranged the music for them, I think he played a joke upon them. It pleased yesterday, principally because, as I have said before, our audiences are very fond of music, but with the selection of the right kind, I think they would have been a tremendous hit which they were not. 17 Min. Full Stage, 2 Shows. Frank Bush. This act is too well known to talk about, other than to say he made his usual big hit and introduced a great number of new jokes. 18 Min. in 1, 3 Shows. Motion Pictures. O. K. Frank Bowman. Talking - magician. All right for an unimportant place. 15 Min. in 1, 3 Shows.
