#2.-Phila. [Philadelphia]- BENJAMIN CHAPIN & CO, "At the White House": 33 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:09. This is an act to be talked about, and shows the deepest scholarship in Lincoln's history. The play has a war flavor with a love study running through the theme, but of course, was written primarily to give Chapin a chance to make a very faithful personal picture of Lincoln, get off many of his wise apothems and tell some of his stories, all of which went well. Lincoln's character is, of course, a very difficult and daring well to impersonate, as every one of his or her conception of Lincoln as a man. However, Chapin made a very strong impression. The act received the most respectful attention throughout, and really made strong friends with the audience. There were seven curtains calls at the finish with continued applause. CLARICE VANCE, "The Southern Singer:-12 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:42. Advance hand. This clever vocalists could make a return twice a year and get the audience every time. She sings coon songs better than anybody I have heard, excepting perhaps, May Irwin,-and thousands think that she has May Irwin trumped at her own specialty. At any rate, she is a hit and no mistake. GALETTI'S MONKEYS:-18 min. F.S. close in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:54. This is a remarkable trained monkey act. It is a scream for the children,-in fact it is a scream for every body. The monkeys, four in number, are all of the larger species, and the fun is fast and furious. There is a sulkey race and a barber scene in one that is one of the funniest things imaginable. The animals are trained so as to appear to be full of uncontrolable [uncontrollable] delivtry [devilry], and this adds not a little to the laughter. The finish was a scream.- THE HERAS FAMILY, Acrobatic:-8 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 10:12. Nine people in one of the most brilliant Continental acrobatic acts ever booked The women wear long skirts and the men conventional evening dress, except one woman and two men who dress as assistants. The act has that Paris finish which is now so familiar to Americans. Big applause after each one of the feats, and an immense closing hand with two curtain calls. KINETOGRAPH:- SWEDISH SPORTS:- Beautiful travel film, interesting and timely.-WHEN THE DEVIL DRIVES:- An excellent comedy film.- REEDHMAN GIRLS' DRILD:- Ok.K. film. ALTOGETHER THE KINETOGRAPH is up to the standard and a little more This films can be recommended anywhere.- HENRY & YOUNG, "Loneville Jollier":-17 min. F.S. 3 shows. On at 6:43. This is a western set, dealing with an athletic, breezy Western widow (who is town-editor, land-boomer, and manicurists) and a tumble-down actor, who is looking for a where-with-all to reach the next town, and who finally discovers here in an old school mate. Would just about get by in an obscure spot. CHARLES HOWISON, Whistler:- 10 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:00. This man has a good whistling faculty which he utilizes cleverly to imitate various birds, but when it comes to accompany songs, after the first two or three minutes it becomes monotonous, having no pitch in consonance with piano. GENERAL REMARKS:- This is an excellent bill from every standpoint. There is a touch of the serious, plenty of high and low comedy and a good balance of fillin-in matter with a little of high-class music. In point of variety could not be excelled and press & public thoroughly suited. No doubt but it will bring strong business. N.A. says: "Mr. Chapin is the one Vaudeville [illegible]
