(2) William Courtleigh and Company. On at 3.31, 33 min, full stage. Playing Geo. V. Hobart's great sketch, "Peaches". I can only repeat what I said about this act last July: "One of the best comediettas ever played in vaudeville". It seems to me that I noticed many new lines today. Its action was punctuated with shrieks of laughter. Emma Carus. On at 4.04, 14 min, in 1. Her re-appearance in vaudeville. We have no cause to complain of the way she went this afternoon, particularly when we stop to think that she is singing three songs for the first time. She is a big favorite here, and seems to improve every time she comes to Boston. Spissell Brothers and Mack. On at 4.18, 13 min, full stage. One of the greatest acrobatic comedy novelty acts of the day. It had our audience simply convulsed with laughter this afternoon. I was inclined to think originally that their jump from their former salary to $300. was unwarranted, but I think it due them to state that they are certainly worth every cent they get. Kinetograph. On at 4.31, 24 min. "Elephants in India". a very interesting film indeed, with quite a dash of comedy in it. "The Medal Winner"; very good comic. "The Witch's Secret"; a fair French "fake" film. Green Brothers. On at 4.33, 11 min, full stage; 3 shows. Very good comedy juggling act. Edmonds and Lee. On at 5.06, 12 min, in 1, 3 shows. I was assured by the agent who booked this act with me that Edmonds was again working with his wife, and that the act was all right in every way. When they went on this afternoon I noticed the woman was very bad indeed, so I went back and had a talk with Edmonds. The result of this was that I gave him the alternative of working alone for $50, or being cancelled on the spot. He decided to work along and will be all right for the remainder of the week, for he is a good performer himself, singing darky songs in an excellent manner. Kitty Johnson. On at 3.18, 7 min, in 1; 3 shows. This young lady started to rehearse "I'm Afraid to Come Home in the Dark" this morning, but was told she would be obliged to omit it, as Miss Irwin is to sing it next week. She therefore attempted to get away with two songs, and upon being questioned said that she had no more songs with her. She was told that she must have a third song tomorrow, or she could take the train back home. She is rather a nice-looking girl, with a fair voice, but will never get out of the 3-a-day class with us. Cuts:- Hafford and Mantell. "Affinity cocktail" squib. Spissell Brothers and Mack. Business with garter.
