186 Report on Columbus Show week Jany 20th. -- 08. W. W. Prosser. ASRA: Billiard Wizard, assisted by a woman. -- The act to say the least is novel. -- The cue work of the man is so manipulated as to make the balls rebound from cushion to most any place he desires he and the assistant catching them as they fall. -- For an opener the act went better than most we have. -- Several of the tricks won solidly and the finish was very good. C. D. F. -- 8 minutes. GRANT & HOAG: Man and woman in singing and talking, mostly the latter, act. -- The man is unusually clever but the woman aside from dressing the act some, does not count for much. -- Grant however went after them with vigor and tho he had a time of it during the early portion of his time, he finally won them and finished strong. -- I believe that he was really too fast for his auditors but at the close I heard favorable comment from quite a number. -- I am going to try the act further along on the bill tonight. 19 minutes in one. LITTLE HIP: The trained elephant. -- This act is so well known that comment is unnecessary except to say that it went as well as could be desired. -- He called on the Governor and Mayor today and was very favorably received. -- The Governor, (Republican), said that it was the first time he had ever had the pleasure of meeting personally, the emblem of his Party. 9 minutes Palace. HERBERT & WILLING: Blackface act, singing and talking, and a good one. These boys won a lot of laughs and finished strong with a good dancing finale. -- Better than the majority of acts of this class. 15 minutes in one. MILITARY OCTETTE: An unusually good act and one that made good in every sense of the term. -- It seemed to win appreciation from every one. -- Special set. 22 minutes. LEWIS McCORD & CO. "[Welly?] Jones Scoop" -- Dramatic comedy sketch. Scene the home of a poor struggling newspaper man who is in tough luck. He wishes for money so that he and his wife could live better and said money comes to him via the chimney. -- It developes that that the money has been stolen and dropped in chimney by the thief. -- Jones finds same. The comedy works up well through Jones and his wife calling a waiter from Shanley's and ordering a dinner of the kind they have been wishing for. At this point the owner or manager of a newspaper, knowing Jones reputation as a good reporter calls on Jones and tells him that a robbery has been committed and that Jones is the man to locate the money and get a "scoop" for the paper that wishes to employ. -- The finish is obvious. -- Jones having the money, gives up the idea of the dinner and gives the story to the paper. -- There is a lot of comedy in the act and there were many laughs throughout. -- All of the participants do well with the roles interpreted and the act all in all seems to be a winner. Kitchen 25 minutes. BOBKERS ARABS: The usual Arab act but all O. K. -- The pyramid work is a little slow but the tumbling goes with plenty of vim and the act got away in a satisfactory manner. 10 minutes Garden. PICTURES. O. K.
