193 (Carl D. Lothrop) Boston Show, Week of January 27, 1908. (Monday Jan. 27--Afternoon Show) Overture. 1.31, 9 min. The Chameroys. On at 1.40, 9 min, full stage; 3 shows. Man and woman in an acrobatic comedy act, in which the woman does the under-standing. An excellent 3-a-day, and is good enough to open in some of the smaller cities. The work that they do is better than their appearance, the things that the act seems to lack most being polish in the way of better costuming and smoothness in their routine of work. Ed Gray. On at 1.49, 13 min, in 1; 3 shows. He proved himself, as always, thoroughly O.K. I could play him as late as 2.45 and 8.30 in this house, and he would make good without question. One of the best values we have for the money. Am pleased to state that he brought quite a quantity of new material today. In my judgement he can hold the number four spot in almost any of the smaller houses. Valoni. On at 2.02, 10 min, full stage. Novelty juggler, from the K. & E. ranks. He has a very prettily dressed act, and his finish with the doves is extremely attractive. I don't think that anybody who plays him will complain of being stung. Hanson and Nelson. On at 2.12, 18 min, in 1. Their first appearance in this house, and they did fairly well. I consider them clever girls and was much surprised that they did not score more heavily. They are full of life and there isn't a dull moment in their act. Still, their finish was weak, with not enough applause to even steal a bow. However, I think it wise to charge part of their non-success to an audience that had not got warmed up. I would not be afraid to put them on at 3 and 8.40, for I think they would do better further down the bill than in the spot they had today. McCrea and Poole. On at 2.30, 8 min, full stage. Certainly a great sharpshooting act. Some day McCrea will find an angel who will build an act for him, and he will make Bordeverry and others take to the woods, for he certainly can out-shoot anybody that I have ever seen work on a stage.
