Phila. 2- MmE ADELAIDE HERRMANN, Magic:- 28 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:50. Advance hand. Makes a very splendid appearance in a gorgeous Cleopatra robe. The stage-setting and tricks are all of the famous Herrmann brand, brilliantly produced. Does several feats of legerdemaine, the Devil tied to a cross in a closed cabinet, changed into a young girl, and other well known tricks. Pleased the audience by throwing candy into the crowd, and ended with the celebrated levitation act which has been variously imitated, but in this case was splendidly done with effective illumination,- and won a good hearty hand. NELLIE WALLACE, English comedienne:- 16 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:18. This woman was a decided and emphatic hit. We were very much in doubt as to how Philadelphia would take her, after New York and thrown her a chill, and Boston gave her a welcome hand. But Wallace had not been on the stage three minutes before they saw that they had found a truly individual genius of humor in this woman. From that time on the jury could not seem to get enough of her. Each one of her songs received a very flattering hand, and she was compelled to make a little speech. Think there is no doubt at all of her success for the balance of this week. Press more than usually flattering. FOUR LUKENS, Bar-act:- 8 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:34. Well known triple bar act and one of the best. Each one of the feats got good applause and the closing stunt, a very difficult feat, got closing hand that was all to be desired. CLIFTON CRAWFORD, Mono:- 18 Min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:42. Advance hand. This was a hard spot for Crawford to fill, but as usual he held down in good shape from a good advance hand to a fine finish. Much new stuff and all good. Kipling's "Gunda Din" made strong close. MASON & KEELER, "A Hero":- 25 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 10:00. This is an admirably written and constructed sketch, although it is a little rough at times. It is also ably acted, and kept the audience in laughter right up to a smashing finish. The action turns on the desire of a retired pugilist to make a hero out of a chap in order to save the youth from being thrown over by a pretty girl. Succeeds only to have her disillusioned, winding up with a quarrel and make-up, something on the order of "Peaches". In fact, this sketch suggests the latter and more strongly Clayton White in his own game-sport skit. But there is no doubt about its catching all parts of the house very strong, for Mason rides over everything with his big, boisterous slangy humor. Finish was immense. KINETOGRAPH:- FASHIONABLE PARIS:- Very interesting film. THE SUBURBANITES:- Fairly good start but an excellent finish. INGENIOUS ALARM:- Good comedy film.- [???] BROTHERS, Gymnasts:- 9 min. F. S. 3 shows. This is an excellent acrobatic hand-balancing act, and is deserving of a good place on any bill. In our estimation it is as good as the Shenck Bros. at much less the money. Many of their feats were absolutely new and all were skilfully done, bringing good applause. Make a fine appearance in Greek athletic costume showing off their superb figures to advantage. Strong recommended. This is an excellent show with a strong comedy element. It was found necessary to transpose the MASON-KEELER sketch with the FOUR LUKENS in order to make the show end snappier and to give CLIFTON CRAWFORD a little more opportunity, as it is pretty hard for any laughing material to follow the "Here" sketch. We are booming WALLCE strong. and have every reason to look for good business this week.
