246. Temple Detroit. March 2, 1908. BELLECLARIE BROS. Will refer to this act by simply saying GREAT. Fine act for any position on the bill. 8 min. Close FS. IRVING JONES. Should be refused further time unless he digs up new material. He was well received in this spot. 18 min. in one. IRENE FRANKLIN, Assisted by BURT GREEN. Miss Franklin is one of the cleverest little women we have ever had here, but she did not make the hit we anticipated for her. From reports we believed she would be a knockout but she fell quite far from the mark. This fact however, does not change our opinion regarding her talents. 18 min. in 3, with plush. THE FOUR FORDS. This dancing act although practically the same as heretofore never went as well as it did Monday afternoon and night. It was one of the real big hits of the bill. 15 min. with two new drops. Close FS. WELCH, MEALY & MONTROSE. The same rough comedy acrobatic act as heretofore. Welch's lines are too rough for any refined lady audience, and he is a positive damage to this theater in that respect. Otherwise the act is a very good one. 18 min. in one. "A NIGHT WITH THE POETS." With a company of 11 people, including a good quartet of singers. James Whitcomb Riley's poems "Good Bye Jim," "That Old Sweetheart of Mine," etc., are delivered by a bookworm, seated in a well appointed library, and they are illustrated by living pictures at the back. The act as a whole is a mighty good one, and would prove one of the most interesting and valuable of the big acts in vaudeville if Mr. Homan would expend a little money in securing an elocutionist to recite the poems. As it was the act was received very well indeed. 24 min. FS. STELLA MAYHEW. Here we find the one great overmastering hit of the bill, and she might be called the hit of the season. She got to our audience both afternoon and night from the very first, and she held every part of the house until she was tired from her exertions. Judging from the applause there was not the slightest reason to deny her all the headline honors. 21 min. in one. GREAT HERAS FAMILY. This is a big, showy acrobatic act, just the sort of a flash to close a strong bill. 8 min. FS. KINETOGRAPH. The pictures of "Jerasulem" are quite appropriate for the opening of the Lenten season, and they are quite up to the high standard we have been receiving in recent weeks.
