249 249. Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of March 2, 1908. (Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr.) The show is the poorest we have had in a number of weeks. The only acts that made good were Hallen & Hayes, McKenzie & Shannon, Richard Golden, and La Maze brothers. Clifton Crawford went fairly well, but by no means adequate to the salary he draws by one-half. I mean to say of he was getting one-half as much as he does, he would still be over-paid as far as Providence is concerned. Espe, Dutton & Espe. Unicycle, acrobatic act which is all right for even a little bit better spot than I am giving it in the 3-a-day section. 10 Min. Full Stage, 3 Shows. Deery & Francis. Man and woman, sort of rural sketch that does well enough in this spot. Might get by all right in the smaller 2-a-day houses as an opener. 14 Min. open in 2, close in One. Can do Full Stage act in One, 3 Shows. Saona. From the 3-a-day standpoint, this fellow is all right, but there is no reason why he should get in the 2-a-day class. At the present salary and three shows, he is worth playing in all the continuous houses. All right to open the show in the smaller 2-a-day houses. 10 Min. Full Stage, 3 shows. Eldredge. Sand pictures. About the best act of it's class that we ever played. 10 min. in 3, 3 Shows. Sam Williams. Pianologuist. Mr. Williams sings some songs at the piano and gets away with them in good style. At the salary he draws, he is good value. 13 Min. in 1, with Grand Piano, 2 Shows. Lind. Female impersonator and dancer. When Mr. Lind was played the first time, the novelty of his act made him worth while. Today he didn't go at all and there is really no excuse for his being in the bill, excepting for him to draw his salary. 10 Min. Full Stage, with a lot of weird scenery. 2 Shows. Hallen & Hayes. Comedians and Dancers. These boys drew the first blood, int he afternoon. They are pretty good comedians and excellent dancers and as the audience were hungry for something, the naturally scored pretty well. Am swapping places with them and Mayme Remington for the night show. 1 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Ziska & King. This act seems to have deteriorated, for they are doing nothing like as good an act as what they offered last year. At that time, they made quite a hit, and today only got by. 17 Min. Full Stage, with more crazy scenery, close in 1, 2 Shows. Military Octette. There is no use talking, from the standpoint of their salary, this is an awfully bad act. It would be a bad act at half the salary. There is some good brass instrument playing, but this, after a while, grows tiresome, being so much repetition of the same thing. The tenor singer is simply impossible even though he does come from this vicinity. The act fell with a dull thud. No one asked them to come back after they had finished. 24 Min. open in 2, 2 or 3 Min. closing in one, 2 Shows. McKenzie & Shannon. This act went very well indeed, principally die to Mr. Shannon's efforts, who has a very excellent baritone voice. The act is something of a novelty and as the audience were anxious for something to happen, they made quite a hit. 22 Min. in 2, 2 Shows. Special set. with a difference in salary. 12 Min. in 1, 2 Shows. Motion Pictures. O. K.
