9 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE, PHILA. MAR. 21ST. CLIFFORD & HALL-14 mins.-C.D.F. in 2-close in one- Man and woman, singing and dancing act; well known on the circuit; have been here twice before; just about good for an opener, but would be a better time filler if they would eliminate the talking. MIETT'S DOGS-15 mins.-Gar. in 3-Some very pretty and clean dogs; a very neat dog act, somewhat out of the ordinary. Man was a little rough with the dogs, and this detracted some from the act. For a three-a-day act, it's all right. It's the man and not the dogs that keeps the act out of the two-a-day class. CURTIS & ADAMS-15 mins. in one-German comedians and wooden shoe dancers; have some talk that is clever in spots, and received many laughs. Good three-a-day act. REED & SHAW-12 mins.-Landscape in 4-Two men, on the swinging rings. The comedian's comedy is bad--very bad. Fearful. His work is all right. If both men worked straight, it would improve the act 100%. Good ring act, but better with comedy eliminated. H. V. FITZGERALD-14 mins.-Gar. in 3-Quick change artist. He just falls short of having a mighty good act. His changes are quick, but his dialogue is delivered in a monotone, and gets monotonous. The stage has to be in semi-darkness throughout the act, for the changes are not complete enough to stand inspection on a well-lighted stage. Act went well, but could be made to go much better. Good three-a-day act. LILLIAN SHAW-12 mins. in one-Songs and talking. On the high notes Miss Shaw's voice is very much off. She strikes a sour note occasionally, and that puts a damper on her work. She is attractive in appearance and dresses neatly, making changes of costume. Has some objectionable stuff in her character work that had to be cut out. Guess she has been playing museums. BELLMAN & MOORE-24 mins.-Special Drop-Man and woman, in their new sketch "A Gallery Goddess." Described from New York house last week. For this house the sketch is not nearly as good as "Hester's Promise." Didn't get a hand at the finish of the sketch. Then they started in on another sketch with the same setting. The audience didn't understand it and neither did we. Act was an awful fall-down. After a speech to the audience stating that the management was short of acts, he said he would deliver a recitation, and then he gave them something on the line of "The Face on the Barroom Floor." He will change the finish some for to-night's show. MME. ADELAIDE HERRMANN-27 mins.-Spec. Set-"Magic of the Orient;" a very showy and well dressed act, pleasing and interesting throughout; went very well and held the closest attention throughout. Good act. RASTUS & BANKS-7 mins. in one-Man and woman, real coons. One of the best colored acts we play, and without a question the liveliest. Can make good anywhere, on most any bill. Very good colored act. JOHNSTONE BENNETT & CO.-21 Mins.-C.D.F. in 3-In "A Quiet Evening at Home." Second time here. The act was fully appreciated by a well-filled house. Miss Bennett proved herself an artist in her particular line of work. The act more than made good. It is one of the few real good acts in the show. Very good act.
