18 Lewis McCord and company, 2 shows, 30 min. full stage--Presenting the comedy sketch, "Her Last Rehearsal," which was played here fifteen months ago. It is done on an empty stage, which is a bit of a novelty in itself. Went with screams of laughter all through, proving the hit of the show, in that respect. Company satisfactory in all respects. Katherine Bloodgood, 2 shows, 9 min. in 1--Contralto vocalist, the best singer and one of the handsomest women in the varieties, stunningly gowned. Went as well as any of the straight singers we have had recently, for there is no disputing the fact that our audiences are tiring of even the best of them, when appearing alone. The Four Boises, 2 shows, 8 min. full stage--Troupe made up of two men, a young woman and a boy. Casting acrobatic act; one of the best in the business. Went big. Sidney Grant, 2 shows, 24 min. in 1--Story-teller and mimic who winds out on his personality, as I do not know of anybody else in the varieties that could get by with the light material he uses. In this city, which is his home, he is particularly strong. Had several recalls. Hal Davis and Inez Macauley, 2 shows, 22 min. full stage--Second week in "Pals", which practically held the audience intact. There was laughter for the humor all through the first part of it, and the sensational fight at the finish scored just as big a hit as last week. Biograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1--The principal pictures was a film showing salmon fisheries of the Northwest, which was extremely interesting. We refused to exhibit the film shown the Yalu river. Franzmathias and Lewis, 3 shows, 12 min. full stage--Man and woman, in a sharp shooting exhibition, with rifles and pistols. It is as good an act as that of Winona and Frank, I think, and went exceptionally strong in a most difficult place at the end of the afternoon show, securing a lot of applause. Comments:- The audience was a much larger one than we expected on the first day of Holy Week, but did not get awakened until well into the afternoon. The "sight" acts appealed to them most, Alfonse, Latina and the Boises, all scoring hits. McCord's sketch was the laughing hit, with Sidney Grant in the second place. Davis' sketch went wonderfully, justifying its retention a second week. As a whole, the show is perhaps one that will appeal to a miscellaneous audience more than did that of last week, and even in the tail end of Lent will probably draw business.
