47 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE, PHILA. APR. 25TH'01 THE LA JESS-12 mins.-Gar. in 4-Man and woman, contortion work on the trapeze and swinging rings. Paraphernalia is bright, costumes seem new. Very pretty sight act. Good for any spot in the three-a-day section. HUTCHINSON & BAINBRIDGE-23 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Man and woman, in Edmund Day's sketch, "Raising the Wind." There seems to be material in the sketch for many good laughs. Perhaps these people do not get the most out of the material. They received some laughs in spots. Good for three-a-day section. BARRETT SISTERS- 12 mins. in one-Songs and dances. Very neatly dressed. Local act. They dance much better than they sing, their wooden shoe clog dancing being very good. COUTURE & GILLETTE-11 mins.-Gar. in 3-Two men, acrobats. One does contortion work; other rube comedy. Comedy is poor. Contortion and acrobatic work is good in spots. Good for three-a-day section. MR. & MRS. MARK MURPHY-20 mins.-C.D. Plain in 3-In their well known sketch "Why Dugan Swore Off." Murphy's quaint Irish talk was received with bursts of laughter and frequent applause. Good act. ST JOHN & LE FEVRE-12 mins. in one-Man and woman, high class singing and dancing act. Taken as a whole, the dancing is better than the singing. Neatly dressed, and got by with some applause. ROMANI TRIO-10 mins.-Gar. in 3-Close in one-Two women and a man, in an instrumental musical act, during which the man plays two cornets at the same time. One of those acts that greatly please our audience. this act could make good anywhere on our bill. Very good. COLE & JOHNSON-20 mins.-C.D.F. in 2-Close in one-Always a big hit here. They sang "Big Indian Chief" that was written by them for the Mask & Wig Club of the University of Pennsylvania. They will draw trade from the University followers this week. MARLO & NALDO-10 mins.-Gar. in 4-Two men, horizontal bar performers, one working as comedian. A very good bar act throughout. Comedy is not bad, and the straight work is exceptionally good. Very good act. FRANCELLI & LEWIS-14 mins.-Spec Drop in one-Man, woman and boy, in a sketch, called "The Ballyhoo." They found themselves in very stiff company down in this place, and while the sketch might prove a good act earlier on the bill, it tended to drop the show down a peg at this point. FALKE & SEAMON-20 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Close in one-Two men, instrumental music and comedy. The laughing hit of the show. For our audience probably the best team of its kind that ever played on this stage. A big laughing hit. HENRY LEE-24 mins.-Spec. in 5-Second time here. Impersonated the Czar of Russia and the Mikado of Japan, with others. Made a pronounced hit. MR. & MRS. HARRY THORNE & CO.-20 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-In their sketch "An Uptown Flat." Too well known for comment. Always get a few laughs on supper show.
