102 NEW YORK SHOW, week of August 15th. MH 3 HERBERT.-- A young magician. A fellow who is quite handy with the regulation tricks. He does not do anything startling at all, but his work is all clean cut and cleverly done and he does but very little talking. It is a good act for the opening of the bill. 18 minutes in one. GYH 3 GORDON, VIDOCQ & BARRY. An Irish comedy sketch which includes bits of almost every other act in the world. It is not at all bad, but there is nothing about it that would induce us to regret it very much if we never had it. It serves my purpose for this week, however, by giving me a fairly reasonable act of some length three times a day. 19 minutes, full stage. NR 3 The Sisters Clafflin. Two rather pretty girls, neatly dressed who are both good singers and who put considerable life and action into their work. I have no doubt that they will make good all over the circuit. 14 minutes in one. HR 3 JOE EDMUNDS. Irish singer and comedian. Joe is another "three turner" who can be classed all right simply because he does not do anything very bad. He sings two or three songs, tells some stories and gags, and does a little dance, all or which, while not very extraordinary, passes by all right. 11 minutes in one. GRR [?] Swift & Baron.-- THIS IS THE ORIGINAL SWIFT of Swift & Barton and Swift & Huber. He is now working with a Dutch comedian by the name of Barton, and, while the act in dialect is practically the same as ever, Barton is rather a better comedian then the last two, consequently the act went very nicely this afternoon. Musical comedy act. 18 minutes, full stage; can close in one if necessary. GYR 3 THE ITALIAN TRIO. These are three Italian singers that I accidentally ran across at Terrace Garden and they made a tremendous hit. They are three men, and one of them is actually seven feet tall. He is splendidly proportion, however, and is a nice looking man. They have magnificent voices and while they sing Italian entirely, the volume of tone and their cultivated voices takes the house by storm. I predict that they will make a big hit during the week. 11 minutes in one. NR 3 McDONALD & HUNTINGTON. A young man and a woman in a singing and dancing act. They have been over the circuit before and comment is hardly necessary. They are both good singers and dancers and attractive looking people. 10 minutes in one. YHR 2 LEWIS & RYAN. In their old negro act "Hawkshaw the Detective." These people are always strong here and Tom Lewis had them laughing constantly all the afternoon. 15 minutes, open full stage and close in one. GHR 2 FRANCIS GIRARD.-- The equilibrist. This is the same Girard who was over here last season and his act is, if anything, I think, rather better than on his last visit. He has introduced several new tricks calculated to display his muscular ability to good advantage. The whole act is brilliant and novel. 13 minutes, full stage. MRR 2 MME. SLAPOFFSKI. I fully concur with the others who have previously seen Slapoffski that she is undoubtedly the best singer from a musical standpoint who has yet been in vaudeville. She went very strong with a dull Monday afternoon audience and can hardly fail to make a big hit tonight. 13 minutes in one.
